I would really like a skatepark and many of my friends would too. I think a nice reasonable sized skatepark would get lots of children involved and wanting to use the village a lot more. The reason why I am writing this is because I believe that kids in Wootton need more social space.

I recently visited family at the Isle of Grain in Kent. There, they have a skate park which was fully funded by eon (the energy supplier) Might be worth someone looking into this ...

Just before the snow came down yesterday, I counted at least 35 holes of various depths & widths in the Mathews Way, Huxley Close, some of which can cause damage to cars, as well as bikes and pedestrians alike. These holes have been getting worse over the last few months and the bad weather will only make things worse. Just when is the council going to repair them.

As the Parish Clerk says in his reply of 14th February, complaints about the state of the roads in Wootton and elsewhere in the Parish need to be addressed to Oxfordshire Highways at the County Council. I am sure that your complaint to the District Council will have been passed on to the County Council and I know that as a Parish Council we are putting as much pressure as we can on the County Council to carry out the repairs in Mathews Way, Old Boars Hill and other roads badly affected in our Parish.
As Parish and District Councillors we do all that we can to get the repairs carried out but the more complaints that come from individual residents the more likely the County Council is to do something about the state of the roads.
My additional concern is that even when the repairs are done the quality of the work is poor.

Is there anyone out there who would look after my well- behaved, quite elderly labrador for a few hours on an occasional basis? He doesn't do much, might need a short walk and just loves company. Very good with children and other dogs. If so, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks

I have a full, enhanced CRB disclosure which , needless to say, is clear. I have two labradors and two children, I live in Wootton and work part-time at a local school. I hope to hear from you.

There has been a large white lorry parking overnight in Mathews Way for some time now and it is causing concern for residents in this road and problems entering driveways. It is nornally parked either on the pavement or roadside, outside the flats where the driver lives. I have consulted the local police and they have informed me that it is an offence for a vehicle of this size to be parked in a resdiential area. Let's get it moved today.

Sorry about that George. Several main points concerning the area around the One Stop shop. No street lighting is my main concern. Secondly the hedge over growing the footpath next to the shop. It needs to be cut right back to the house boundary link fence which is buried deep with in and lastly but not finally, the fact people park on the footpath outside the shop. It should be stopped by bollards.

As a resident of Whitecross I hope that sooner or later we will get the much needed cycle path from Wootton to Abingdon to make a safer environment for all. However, using the pavement on a cycle is illegal and on a daily basis I see riders, both young and old flouting the law. Whilst they seem to think that this is acceptable, it is probably more dangerous than cycling on the road. This is because they don't pay any regard to the possibility of being thrown into the road by a car pulling out of a drive. Many a time I have only just managed to prevent a collision with one of these selfish idiots. Not all gateways have good visibility. I have even seen teenagers riding no-handed on the pavement and fiddling with ipods. Maybe we should be thinking about sensible cycle education - hi-vis clothing, helmets, good lighting and last but not least, engaging a brain cell and concentrating on the road when on a bike.

I'm a teenager who cycles regularly. Mostly to school and back. But I do use all the right safety equipment, helmets, lights, break checks, plus i always cycle on the road. I know there are people who don't see the risk that there're taking, but hopefully they will grow up and think better about thier safety and also the pedestrians. I am not a perfect example as i make a few bad mistakes on the road which i have to admit, also i did go out one night without any lights and jacket and got shouted out a 'comment' which upset me, but it shook me in place.

There is a motorcyclist who insists on significantly exceeding the speed limit through the village on a regular basis. Yesterday (June 23rd) he was tearing down Lashford Lane just as the children were coming out of Dry Sandford School. I hope he can explain to the parents of any child he kills or injures that it was really, really important that he be allowed to do this. Residents have tried to signal to him to slow down and are greeted with rude gestures. If anyone knows who this is can they explain to him that what he's doing is dangerous?

30 mph in built up areas is the maximum permitted speed. If you go over it and get caught you are in no position to say you were not speeding. Regardless of wether the UK is over crowded or not. We don't want Kangaroo courts or public lynching mentality. Use the proper channels. Ie the police. I recall a police van was parked in Wootton on Monday evening at around 6pm taking pictures.

Having moved into the area three years ago, I'm quite saddened by the lack of adequate street lighting between Manor Road and the One Stop Shop on Besselsleigh Road. If there was ever a need for lighting then this is it! The area is just too dark. I've looked into the cost of erecting a single lamp post and this would cost around £900. A small amount to spend on a safety critical item. Is the Parish Council doing anything? I have no idea but they should be. This should be a priority.

Hi George. Thanks for the update. But as I mentioned; I've lived here 3 years and the Parish council have only just noticed it??.........as long as it is carried out soone;, before the nights start getting shorter. I spoke to the Highways agency and they are the ones who provided the value of installing a lamp. No mention of them doing it though.

Having recently returned from holiday my husband and I were very suprised to see from the Wootton Newletter and the leaflet amongst our mail the proposals by the Oxford PCT.
We have dealt mainly with Dr. Blazewicz who is not only a very hard working Doctor, but also extremely good. Many a time when I have been concerned about my late parents he has given me good advice and also set mine and my siblings minds at rest. Where would you get that sort of help from strangers who know nothing about you!
So many of Wootton's residents feel they are known personally by the Doctors, especially the elderly that this would be lost if strangers were brought in.
We need to do whatever we can to support our Doctors and we sincerely hope that this proposal is thrown out.

I can now report that at the Oxfordshire PCT's AGM that Councillor Anthony Gearing received (so far only verbal) confirmation that there would be no replacement of doctors at Botley surgery. Many thanks to everyone who took the time and trouble to write to or call the PCT on this matter. The response was overwhelming!

my son was cycling home from school the other day through whitecross just after dunmore court and on the pavement as this stretch of the road you take your life in your own hands if you use the road.
the hedge is so overgrown hedgerow is constantly obstructing you even a walker has to walk close to the road
Well a your lad riding in front of my son caught the hedgerow and fell into the road a car had to swerve to miss him
how many kids lifes do we have to loose before
A : we get a cycle track to keep our kids safe between wootton and Abingdon and to stop people moaning about our kids on thr pavements
B: cut the hedgerows

Like many people in the village who have for years been well looked after by this practice of Dr Blazewicz and Dr Chadwick and also in the past Dr's Slater and Marston, I think it is totally discusting that the PCT should even consider removing these highly professional people and replace them with total strangers. I feel that if it does go ahead then within no time at all Botley medical centre wil have to close as they would not have any patients will to go there. This would then cause a major concern for the local community and the PCT would have to have very good reasons to justify their actions. I do not for one minute believe that the way the centre operates at present is deteremental to the care of ALL the patients there , as after all a vast majority are elderly and a change in doctor could have a adverse effect on them

The 4b bus service which runs through Wootton between Oxford and Abingdon in the evenings and Sundays is under review. The service was subsidised from Section 106 development money from Deerhurst Park. The subsidy runs out at the end of 2009 and Oxfordshire County Council will need to decide whether to cancel the service or subsidise it. The Parish Council believes that we should try to retain the service and will be submitting a petition which can be signed at the Co-op, Bystander or Leo’s takeaway. Individual letters or e-mails can be sent to Tim Darch, Assistant Public Transport Officer, Oxfordshire County Council, Environment & economy, Speedwell House, Speedwell Street, Oxford OX1 1 NE – e-mail: tim.darch@oxfordshire.gov.uk
