fairplay4whitecross Speed limits in whitecross and wootton 1 Sep 2 2008, 6:35 AM EDT by Anonymous

My wife and I have lived in Whitecross since 1982 when the speed limit was 40mph. Prior to limit being reduced to 30mph we witnessed and knew of several quite serious accidents. Drivers have always exceeded the speed limits imposed and it has been proved that the faster a motorist is travelling when involved in a collision the more serious the consequences. There has been a policy of reducing speed limits in built-up areas to 30mph for good reason so therefore I hope that common sense will prevail and the current speed limit be retained. Any argument for not enough signage is flawed as it quite clearly states in the Highway Code that when street lights are no more than 200 yards apart the limit is 30mph unless positively signed utherwise. Impatience amongst drivers is no excuse to relax the rules that are in place for all our safety. Keep the 30mph limit unchanged!
